The Center for Advanced Legal Studies specializes in paralegal education, while Houston Community College offers criminal justice associate degrees with specializations in law enforcement, corrections, forensic science, and juvenile justice. Texas Southern University offers a bachelor's degree in administration of justice.
The Houston area is expected to experience significant growth through 2010 in legal and criminal justice occupations. Law enforcement workers overall can expect a 34% increase in job opportunities, including growth of 32% for correctional officers and jailers, 33% for detectives and criminal investigators, and 37% for police and sheriff's patrol officers. Legal support workers overall are forecast to experience growth of 22%, including a 30% increase for paralegals and a 20% increase for court reporters. Lawyers can expect growth of 22%.
