Sam Houston State University in nearby Huntsville and Lamar University in Beaumont are also home to psychology departments.
Psychology employment prospects in Houston look very promising. Employment for clinical, counseling and school psychologists for the area is expected to grow 25.8% between the years 2002-2012. Employment of educational, vocational, and school counselors is expected to increase by 21.3%, employment of mental health counselors is projected to grow by 22.%, and employment of rehabilitation counselors is expected to grow by 19.1%.
